Don’t Get Complacent

Don’t Get Complacent

If nothing changes, nothing changes. If you keep doing what you’re doing, you’re going to keep getting what you’re getting.

You want change, make some

  • Courtney C. Stevens

Perhaps this may seem contradictory to my post yesterday, because while that focuses on mentality today I want to talk about action.

I know it’s easier said than done, but you really do have the power to make changes to your life. Whether you’re bored of your job, feeling insecure in your appearance, or just fancy a change – you’re in control of what happens next.

The world makes it seem like we’re all just passive passengers, along for the ride. And while there are going to be times in your life where this is more true than others, it doesn’t always have to be this way.

Again, I’m fully aware that I can say this because I’m privileged, but I really think anyone can have this privilege if they want.

The first step is knowing what you want.

As I explored yesterday (check out the post here), your mentality plays a huge role in the shape of your life. You can’t make changes if you don’t know what you want in the first place.

This is where the title comes in – don’t get complacent. If you’re feeling stuck or unsatisfied, or even if you just think you can do a little more, use this to make moves.

It’s so easy to just sit back and let life happen; to assume that is is how things have to be but please please please trust me when I say it doesn’t have to be.

Sure, you can’t necessarily control other people or the wider world, but you do have control over yourself. And your mind is the best place to start.

Whether you’re looking to add more enjoyment into your day or want to take a whole new career path, don’t just plod on through it.

Never assume that where you are now is where you have to stay.

The one guarantee in this life is that things are going to change. ‘This too shall pass’ applies to both good and bad, the highlights and the lowlights – nothing lasts forever. While this can get you down, it’s also incredibly freeing.

I urge you to take back some control over your life. You do not have to force it or push yourself in weird ways, simply believing you’re in charge is a great start. If there’s something you want, you can have it. You just have to get out there and try.

I’m rooting for you. Don’t let complacency take over, for all our sakes.

Speak soon,

Rachael.
