You know that feeling when you open a new notebook, slip into a freshly cleaned bed or start a new novel?
I’m kind of hooked on it.
It seems like I’m always saying that ‘tomorrow will be better’ or that ‘this time for real I’m going to get my act together’.
In all honesty, I’m not that disorganised – I’m just obsessed with trying to make things better and creating fresh starts.
Here are some surefire ways to bring that fresh start feeling into your life whenever you feel like you need it most from me, an obsessive fresh starter.
-
CLEAN, TIDY, DECLUTTER
I have talked quite often about my love of tidying on this blog, but the reason I love it so much is how good it makes me feel.
If you’re struggling with overwhelm at the moment or just feel like you need to take more control over your shit, then start with your space.
Dedicate some time to go through your wardrobe, empty your sock draw or your makeup collection. Start on something that is easy like socks or out of date products to get the ball rolling.
You could even do this with technical things, like clearing out your inbox, organising your photos or unfollowing people.
When you have less stuff around you, it’ll be easier to keep your space clean and tidy. This will do wonders for your mental health, let me tell you!

WRITE A TO-DO LIST
For me, the act of writing a to-do list is quite calming. I just really like planning stuff out, even if I never do half of the things on my list.
But it can also be very helpful if you actually have a lot on your plate at the moment.
Get yourself organised the night before and write down everything you need to get done, no matter how small. If it won’t stress you out to much, you could even plan what order you need to get them done by.
Writing things down and getting them out of your brain can be very soothing and it’ll help you feel much better.

FINISH SOMETHING
Nothing screams ‘fresh start’ more than actually being able to start something new.
A simple way to bring this feeling into your life is to actually finish something first. This can be applied to anything – finishing a book, TV series, podcast, a creative piece.
Anything that you are currently in the middle of right now, take some time out to actually get it finished.
This feeling is even better when you get something done that actually needs doing, like an assignment. But it can still work with anything.
I find that when I’m feeling a bit stressed out, I like to take some time out to finish to book I’m reading. As I’m writing this, I have just finished a book I’ve been reading for weeks and it’s made me feel so good.
This can also act as self-care, as dedicating some time to just reading or watching a Netflix show can be a wonderful way to relax and recharge.
Finishing something, even if it only is an entertainment thing, is such a good way to start of a fresh start because you are now open to so many new things – its an even better excuse to chill out!
How do you ignite a fresh start in your life?
I hope you’re well friends.
Speak soon,
Rachael.
