Do you believe in manifestation?
I know there’s a lot of controversy around the whole Law Of Attraction thing – and for good reason. But as with a lot of the spiritual ideas I come by, taking it with a pinch of salt does open you up to a new, fun way to live.
I’m not 100% sold on the ways LOA is currently described online or through certain ‘self-help’ books, but I do like the idea of positive in, positive out. If you think positive, and focus on positive, you can get more of it.
Of course, this doesn’t apply to everything and everyone so that pinch of salt is needed throughout this discussion, or any other like it. Also bear in mind that I’m talking about this from a physically and mentally well state, an incredibly privileged position, and an exploratory mind so I may have a different opinion to you.
Now that’s out the way…
Manifestation, in my opinion, does not necessarily mean just thinking. I don’t believe you can just think your way to getting stuff, but there is something to be said about positive attitudes and letting it go.
Elsa said it best, and we were all there in 2013 when that song took over. Letting things go is incredibly powerful, and also very hard to do.
Whether you identify as a control freak, a perfectionist or just a functioning human, we all want to be in control. We all want to get what we want and often believe force is the best way to do that.
However, force just stresses you out and can even hinder your progress.
It might help you get your feet off the ground, but you may struggle to get any further with this attitude.
My Background And Reality
Coming from a working-class background, I’ve been told my whole life that working hard and depleting yourself is the only way to get through your days. And even then, no matter how hard my parents worked or what they sacrificed, it still wasn’t enough.
I don’t want to live that way. Call it millennial arrogance or dumb naivety, but I don’t think life should be that hard.
It’s other people that make it difficult, from the society you live and the politicians messing with ordinary people, to the neighbours, colleagues and bullies you see every day. On a large or small scale, it’s not life that’s hard – it’s the surroundings.
You’ll hear this a lot in spiritual circles, but our cores are light. Who we are at the centre (most people, anyway) are light and love in its purest sense.
I don’t think people came to this world or this reality, whatever you want to call it, to suffer – even if that does happen.
If you’re in a relatively safe environment, with personal freedom and – let’s be honest – a bank account, there are ways you can make your life easier. Your mentality is where it all starts.
So with all of this in mind, that’s what I think LOA is – it’s the mental shift you make towards intentional positivity.
It’s the law of attraction after all, attract positivity by being positivity. Start a cycle, grow the pattern.
Ignorance Is Bliss – Literally
Let’s be complete transparent here, maintaining this positive mindset is a whole other story and often requires some ignorance. But if you can get there, and allow yourself to get there, things can be wonderful.
The peace that comes from genuinely believing things will work out is unmatched.
Taking a step back to just allowing, and being a bit selfish by just focusing on yourself can be a fun way to lighten things up.
Again, I’m aware this is not available to a lot of people and this is why many struggle. It’s extremely privileged of me to say ‘just chill out, ignore the rest of the world for a bit’ because I know I can. But if you’re open to this whole concept, perhaps this makes sense to you.
What happens Next? My Experience And Tips
Throughout my life, I have managed to achieve or ‘manifest’ some incredible things. I have had ups and downs like everyone else, but ultimately managed to achieve some of the major dreams I’ve had.
While luck does play a role in this, I also like the idea that you can make your own luck. Perhaps this is my working-class background coming in, but I don’t like to assume things are just given to me for no reason.
A lot of what I have achieved, such as my education and career, have come from hard work. I did try and continue to do so to keep it going. But there was also something else there.
This inner, quiet knowing that it was going to work out.
As a kid, I knew I wanted to be a writer and that has spurred me on all these years. I knew what university I wanted to go to and what I wanted to do. While I did the work to get me there, it was all the more easier because of this weird inner confidence I had that said it was going to happen.
This can apply to all areas of life, not just the major milestones. For example, a recent example of my ‘manifestation’ success is getting tickets to see one of my all-time favourite artists. I’ve missed other opportunities because the time wasn’t right, but I just knew one day it would come back around and I’d be there. And now, incredibly, I will be.
Whether you want to call this manifestation, good luck, or just living life, I think it’s fun to look back on your life and put the dots together in a magical way. I mean, why not add some magic to things, eh?
Get What You Want By Knowing
The key to getting what you want lies in this inner audacity, I think. The inner confidence or belief that things come round in their own time and you’ll get your turn. No matter what it is, know it’ll come.
One of the best things my mam taught me, and continues to mention whenever it applies is ‘bide your time’. A lesson from her grandmother, this usually applies to karma and seeing people get what they deserve, but it can also apply to positive things too.
This concept applies to manifestation and seems to be the way I’ve succeeded in certain areas.
Thinking something then seeing it come to fruition is the very basis of manifestation – and that’s what we’re talking about here. Aye, there’s a lot of stages in between (that very rarely get talked about) but this doesn’t mean they have to be hard.
You don’t have to break your back to get what you want. Effort is needed, but you don’t have to kill yourself to get there.
For me, manifestation or LOA is a combination of positivity, trust and effort. That’ll help you get there.
Whether it’s a job, a person or a thing. I think it can be achieved through this process.
Do It Yourself
Don’t know where to start? Find something you’re passionate about and have access to – such as you love to play an instrument and are somewhat good at it, or like me you’re a writer and have plenty of tools to help you practice.
Once you find the thing, keep going with it – keep building those skills. When you enjoy it, it’s easy to get into that flow state and do it often.
The aim here is to build up your skills and experience in certain areas so you feel confident. You don’t have to think you’re the best, just good enough or decent.
This confidence and belief will grow over time. It comes with age and practice, too. I think combining the physical and emotional is a way to make long-lasting change.
As you build on your conscious confidence and real-life skills through practice, effort and awareness, your subconscious is doing stuff behind the scenes. This is where that inner knowing or audacity comes from – it’s easier to maintain when you have the physical proof to go along with it.
Start small, work your way up. Don’t know where to start? Don’t stress, let it come naturally. Live your life, try out hobbies, and take time to focus on what you enjoy – know it’ll come.
That seems to work for me, and I think it might be good for you too.
